Tips for Converting Citations to Bluebook

Authors and editors are encouraged to consider the following resources when converting citations to The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation.

First, use the most recent ELA Quick Style Guide the publishers provided to you at the contracting stage. And read this additional Support Desk article that gives examples from this guide.

Second, please check the Advance Sheets at EducationLaw.org > Members > Periodicals. Many related cases are already converted to Bluebook.

Third, for those with academic affiliations, please ask your law library to give you access to LegalBluebook.com to learn about citing sources.

Fourth, ask your academic or legal affiliation to give you access to Westlaw or LexisNexis, both of which generates Bluebook citations for case names.

Fifth, for those affiliated with universities or law firms, ask a law librarian or a manager to see if one of the law students or clerks can help you with the citations.
