Proposal Selection Process

How are proposals scored?

  • Proposals submitted to the Education Law Association go through a double-masked peer-review process overseen by Event Editor, a volunteer appointed by the Conference Committee.
  • A double-masked peer review means that applicants do not know the identity of the reviewers, and the reviewers do not know the applicant’s identity. The proposal portal does not permit any reviewer to review their own application.
  • Reviewers evaluate each proposal and give both a quantitative score and qualitative comments based on criteria set by the committees each year. Click here to read and download the Reviewer’s Rubric for Event Proposals.

How are proposals selected?

  • The Event Editor invites applicants whose proposals received a 60% score or more (3-point average) to present at the annual conference.
  • Learn how the Publisher may invite conference paper proposals with 90% score or higher (4.5-point average) from three or more reviewers for publication in The Chronicle of Education Law for distribution at the annual meeting.

How are presentation slots awarded?

  • The annual conference includes various presentation slots for papers, panels, roundtables, posters, keynote presentations, plenary sessions, award ceremonies, business meetings, and other social programs.
  • The applicant’s preferred presentation type is one of many variables the Event Editor uses to build the conference schedule, such as considering the proposal’s thematic compatibility, review scores, an applicant’s preference, the saturation level of the topic, audience, practice area, and other logistics, such as room availability.

Can I resubmit if my proposal was not accepted?

  • Yes! We highly encourage you and your contributors to consider the reviewer’s scores, comments, and rubric when resubmitting your proposal.
  • Please email support@educationlaw.org if you’d like a staff or volunteer to provide informal feedback before you resubmit. We are committed to your success and love seeing you thrive.
