Retaliation is a topic commonly discussed in the workplace; however, retaliation protections extend far beyond the office – including into elementary and secondary and higher education classrooms. Schools are simultaneous workplaces and places of learning, which means they must be cognizant of potential retaliation claims from both employees and students. We will explore the laws that prohibit retaliation, how to mitigate the risk, and best practices when it comes to addressing retaliation in schools.
