In 2015-16, the National Center for Education Statistics indicated that 11.9% of graduate students reported having a disability. The 2020 gradSERU survey indicated that 28.6% of graduate and professional students reported a disability. As the number of graduate and professional students seeking accommodations increases, higher education administrators look for resources and guidance to ensure that they are following the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Consideration must be given to the number and types of accommodation requests while maintaining the academic program’s integrity and quality. K-12 educators and administrators often receive training and professional development concerning students with disabilities. However, postsecondary faculty and administration, including graduate-level educators, only sometimes receive information or training as frequently, which can complicate the process.
