Navigating Issues Involving Students with Mental and Emotional Disabilities

Students with mental and emotional disabilities present unique considerations for institutions who must comply with federal and state laws protecting students with disabilities. Oftentimes, mental health and emotional concerns pose unique challenges when it comes to providing students’ accommodations and engaging in the interactive process. We will discuss the protections afforded to students with mental and emotional disabilities, examples of how to meet the legal requirements for these students, and real world examples from institutions that engage in these processes daily.
