Call for Study Participants: IDEA Due Process Hearings

EXPLORATORY STUDY OF INFLUENTIAL FACTORS RELATED TO

SETTLEMENT OF IDEA DUE PROCESS HEARINGS

Based on a gap in the professional literature, we are conducting an exploratory study of the key factors affecting the settlement of IDEA due process hearings. The survey is a one-page document transmitted to qualified individuals via email.

To qualify for the study individuals must have directly participated in a total of at least 8 successful or unsuccessful settlements of IDEA disputes prior to a due process hearing decision within the period of the 2012-13 school year through the 2021–22 school year in one of the following roles:

(a) a parent-side attorney or lay-advocate,
(b) a district-side attorney OR
(c) a mediator or other third-party-neutral

We seek diverse jurisdictional representation in the participants, and we will keep identities and contact information strictly confidential.

We will share our findings and conclusions in a national presentation and/or publication. Professionals who are interested in volunteering for this study and meet the qualifications specified above are encouraged to contact Annie Lockwood by email at avlockwood@gmail.com or call (512) 922-2060.

Thanks,

Ann Vevier Lockwood, Esq., retired IDEA hearing officer and mediator in Texas
