Call for ELIP Articles

Education Law Into Practice (ELIP) is a special section of West's Education Law Reporter sponsored by the Education Law Association. The purpose of this special section is to publish short, practical pieces on topics in education law that are important to practitioners and attorneys. The intent of the special section is to publish checklists, charts, sample forms, model policies, sample memoranda, sample documents, procedural guidelines, and short articles that are thoroughly supported by citations to statutes and case law. Textual pieces providing implications for practitioners on a specific topic will be accepted on a limited basis. All manuscripts are subject to a peer review process.

  1. The manuscript should be submitted to either of the co-editors via email (listed below). The manuscript itself should not include the authors’ names but should be accompanied by a cover sheet that includes all authors' names, graduate degrees, professional titles, and affiliations. The mailing address, email address, and the telephone number of the senior author should be included on the cover sheet. The manuscript should be prepared in Microsoft Word format following ELIP’s Guidelines for Final Manuscript Preparation.
  2. The manuscript may not be under consideration by any other publication.
  3. The manuscript should be double spaced throughout, including the citations.
  4. The manuscript should be prepared according to the guidelines of the latest edition of The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation. All citations should be numbered and listed at the end of the manuscript.
  5. The topic addressed should be timely and significant. The manuscript should be currently practical. It should be presented in a direct, concise, clear, and readable style.
  6. The topic should be exhaustively researched in terms of applicable primary sources. The manuscript should include at the end a list of footnotes that demonstrate scholarly accuracy and thoroughness. Authors are responsible for verifying the accuracy of all information and citations.
  7. The length of the manuscript, including citations, should be between 3 and 10 pages (2000-2500 words). Manuscripts that exceed 2000-2500 words in length, including citations, generally will not be accepted for review. Longer manuscripts will be accepted only if brevity would seriously and inescapably compromise the overall quality of the manuscript.
  8. Authors are responsible for supplying any necessary camera-ready charts, tables, or other graphic material.
  9. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to use any material that may be copyrighted.
  10. The Education Law Association (ELA) reserves the right to reproduce any manuscript accepted for publication in a separate stand-alone publication or as part of another ELA publication.
